Being the nerd that I am, I was able to mathematically PROVE, using the theory of feminism, that abortion is wrong.

1) Prove - unborn female = female

By the reflexive property, a female = a female. Therefore, a female = a female @ all stages of life. A female = an unborn female.

2) Given - male = female (feminism)
Prove - unborn male = female

By the reflexive property, a male = a male. Therefore, a male = a male at all stages of life. A male = an unborn male. By substitution, a female = an unborn male.

Therefore, abortion is wrong (except in life of the mother scenarios).

When a fetus develops the sex remains female until a certain month. (Sorry, but i forget what month this is, but i remember reading about it.) I don't exactly understand your logics here but i think i've gotten the gist of it. Good job :]

nope. gender is determined at conception by whether the baby has XX or XY chromosomes.

It's determined at conception but does not go into effect until about the third month. So until then, the baby is female.

physically, perhaps, but not genetically. I don't think it's accurate to describe all babies under three months as female.

lol did you take logic or discrete math or something? That was clever!

Actually, alot of the principles hopefully should be taught in a good, challenging geometry class.

Really? I've taken advanced math classes but never any challenging geometry classes. ^_^ I don't think visually, so geometry eludes me.

We *did* learn that stuff originally in high school, but in NY public schools, math is separated into course 1, 2, 3 and then honors pre-calc, AP Calc, AP Stat, etc. In courses 1-3 it's like a mix of geometry, algebra and some other random stuff. :)

It's just algebra that I applied to real life, LoL.

Hello. Don't mind me; I'm just critiquing leftoverfaerie's argument.

Your logic is valid as far as it goes. Yes, by your system, a female=an unborn male. However, you have yet to prove that this makes abortion wrong. In other words, you have yet to prove that from "a female=an unborn male" it follows that "abortion is wrong."

Also, one of your premises is false. You have feminist theory all wrong. Feminist theory is based on the assumption that men and women are not equal, but that they are worthy of equal amounts of respect. So, when you say "male=female (feminism)," you are not quoting anything that appears in feminism. Or if you are, I've never heard of it, and would appreciate it if you would find a feminist author who did say that. Of course, you could just be using a definition of "=" that I am unfamiliar with. Again, I would greatly appreciate it if you could explain this concept.

You might also be misusing the reflexive property. If "male" is defined as "anything with testicles," then there is indeed a stage in life where a male is not "male," that is, before the testicles have developed. The same applies to the way you apply the reflexive property to females.

I'm not trying to be mean or anything; your logic could just use some tweaking, that's all. I have taken courses in logic and discrete math, and thought my input might be useful.

"In other words, you have yet to prove that from "a female=an unborn male" it follows that "abortion is wrong." "

I realize that I didn't include my logic for why this would make abortion wrong, so from a strict logical perspective one could argue against me, but to the onlooker's eye it is pretty obvious why. Abortion sets a female higher than her (male or female) fetus. Because I have proven that this is false, the logic behind abortion must also be false, making abortion wrong.

"So, when you say "male=female (feminism)," you are not quoting anything that appears in feminism."

Actually, that is exactly what feminism is.
Feminism: n; advocacy of women's rights based on equality of the sexes (Oxford dictionary)
Feminism: n; belief in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes. (American Heritage Dictionary)
I don't have Webster's dictionary lying around, but I'm sure it says something similar.

"If "male" is defined as "anything with testicles," then there is indeed a stage in life where a male is not "male," that is, before the testicles have developed."

Male: adj; 1a. of or being the sex that has organs to produce spermatozoa for fertilizating ova. b. consisting of members of this sex. (American Heritage Dictionary) The Oxford definition is similar.
This definition does not say specifically that the male must have testicles, just that it must be of the same sex as those with testicles. I'll look up the word "sex" for this purpose.

Sex: n; the property or quality by which organism are classified on the basis of their reproductive organs.
This definition agrees with your theory, but I am almost certain it is wrong. Everything I have ever been taught has said that gender is determined at conception by genetics, not by organs. I got the above definition from my pocket dictionary, so I'll use a more reliable source to refute this.

"Before birth. A human being's sex is determined at conception, also called fertilization. Conception occurs when a sperm unites with an egg... The sex chromosome carried by the egg is called an X chromosome. The sperm contains either an X or a Y chromosome. If an X-bearing sperm fertilizes the egg, the sex chromosomes form an XX pair, which results in a female baby. If the egg is fertilized by a Y-bearing sperm, the sex chromosomes form an XY pair, resulting in a male baby." - Sexuality. World Book Encyclopedia.
